This year many of us have spent more time indoors than we wanted, but that doesn’t mean the only thing we can do is watch TV or look at social media. If you have kids and they are getting tired of the same indoor activities, consider these 7 interior design projects for kids! It is a fun way to get the creative juices flowing, get their eyes away from screens for a while, and in the end, a piece of their art gets to be a part of your home.

1. DIY Coasters

If you have any scrapbook paper lying around, you can help the kids make some fun, colorful coasters. Scrapbook paper is perfect for something like this because they often have fun colors, patterns, and designs that make an interesting and unique looking coaster. All you need are a few tiles and mod podge.

2. Turn Magazine File Boxes into Colorful Organizers

These aren’t just for the office. Magazine file boxes are a great organizational tool for the kids’ bedrooms, playroom, or anywhere you need to clear up some clutter. You can use them to store school work, art supplies, toys, books, and more. Let the kids paint the outside of them with paint markers adding their names or what the content will be.

3. Special Wall Art

Kids’ artwork tends to be displayed on the refrigerator, but wouldn’t it look better framed on the wall somewhere? Make a collage of art by using a small set of square frames, or even your standard frame for a 3×5 or 5×8 photo. Space them evenly apart in a grid-like pattern for a more modern look or let the kids choose how they are arranged.

4. Paint a Wall with Chalkboard Paint

Kids love to color on the walls, so why not give them a dedicated place to color to their heart’s content. Chalkboard paint has been growing in popularity for this reason. Plus, its great for parents to jot down a quick note or make a shopping list. Benjamin Moore has magnetic chalkboard paint available in just about any color, so you can choose one that suits the color palette you’re going for and let the rest be one of the interior design projects for kids.

5. Paint a Table or Desk with Chalkboard Paint

Okay, if you’re not keen on the idea of encouraging your children to color on the walls, consider using chalkboard paint on a small table or desk! It is a great way to give kids a creative outlet that isn’t messy and doesn’t require costly supplies. Chalk is all they will need!

6. Painted Rock Magnets

Do your kids like to throw rocks? Well, instead of throwing them, cover them in paint! They can make silly rock faces, paint their names on them, or any fun design they want. Once the rocks dry, you can add a dab of glue and stick a magnet on the back. Paint markers work great for the more detailed artist.

7. Turn a Planter into a Table

A large terracotta pot with a saucer can be turned into a unique table for your porch or patio. Let your kids paint their designs on the outside of the pot and saucer, and when you place the saucer on the top of the planter, it instantly becomes a table.
